More than 1,000 young people from across the area attended a careers festival at East Coast College, it was a fantastic day giving students with over 90 organisations, filling the day with conversations, connections and future pathways. It was an inspiring space for our students to discover what comes next after college, supported by representatives from universities, training providers and employers across the region.
The Festival of Careers, now in its second year, took place on 20 March and brought together a wide range of organisations, including local businesses, public services, and training providers.
Students from local schools, the college, and Lowestoft Sixth Form College were able to speak directly with employers, ask questions, and learn more about different industries and career paths.
Organisers said the event has grown since it launched last year, with more employers taking part and a strong turnout from students. Across the day, young people were able to take part in hands-on activities, demonstrations, and talks designed to give them a better understanding of their options after education.
The festival is organised in partnership with East Suffolk Council and business support organisation MENTA, with the aim of helping young people connect with opportunities close to home.
For many students, it was a chance to have conversations they might not usually have, build confidence, and explore the range of career paths available locally as they prepare for life after school.
Events like this are becoming an important way of linking education with real-world opportunities, while also helping employers meet the next generation of local talent.
