Corrections & Complaints

Lowestoft Wire is committed to accurate, fair and responsible local journalism. We aim to check information carefully before publication and use reliable sources wherever possible. However, mistakes can happen. If we get something wrong, we want to know about it.

    Corrections

If you believe an article contains a factual error, please contact us and explain what you believe is incorrect.

Where a significant factual error is confirmed, we will correct the article as soon as reasonably possible.

Where appropriate, we may also add a correction or update note to the article so readers can see what has changed.

Minor spelling, formatting or grammatical amendments may be corrected without a published correction note where they do not change the meaning of the article.

    Making a complaint

If you have a concern about something published by Lowestoft Wire, please contact us through our contact page or by email at lowestoftwire@gmail.com.

    Please include, where possible:

    • the article or content you are complaining about
    • a link to the article
    • the specific information, wording or conduct you are concerned about
    • why you believe it is inaccurate, unfair or otherwise problematic
    • any evidence or information that may help us consider the complaint
    • what outcome you are seeking

We will consider substantive complaints fairly and may contact you if further information is required.

    What we can consider

We can consider complaints relating to content published by Lowestoft Wire and editorial decisions within our control.

    This may include concerns about:

    • factual accuracy
    • fairness
    • attribution or use of sources
    • privacy
    • photographs or other published material
    • significant omissions that may create a misleading impression

Disagreement with an article or with views expressed by someone quoted within an article does not necessarily mean that the journalism is inaccurate or unfair.

    How we respond

When considering a complaint, we will review the information available, including the original sources used for the article and any additional evidence supplied by the complainant.

Depending on the circumstances, we may:

    • make no change
    • amend or clarify an article
    • publish a correction
    • add an update or explanatory note
    • remove material where there is a compelling reason to do so

We will explain the outcome of substantive complaints where appropriate.

    Independent regulation

Lowestoft Wire is currently an independent local news publication and is not presently regulated by IMPRESS.

As the publication grows, we intend to consider membership of an independent press regulator as part of the continuing development of Lowestoft Wire's editorial standards.

    Our commitment

Complaints and corrections are not something we regard as an inconvenience. They are part of producing trustworthy journalism.

If we make a mistake, we would rather correct it openly than leave inaccurate information online.
