If you pop onto the league’s Facebook group, you’ll see stories from players in their seventies who are still competing every week, and plenty of friendly banter about the latest matches and memorable finishes.
The league is split into three divisions, so there’s a level for everyone. Fixtures are usually played at local pubs and clubs, with teams travelling from all over town. There’s no airs and graces—just a good night out and some fiercely contested legs. Then, as spring rolls around, things get serious with the Knock-Out Cups: the Eric Goreham Cup for Division 1, the NATO Memorial Cup for Division 2, and the Barry Moore Shield for Division 3.
